Blackout spurs sales of emergency gear

The power blackout that hit Spain and Portugal last week was bad news for millions, but good news for sellers of emergency preparedness gear.

Portuguese price comparison and marketplace site KuantoKusta reported that on Monday and Tuesday, the two days of the emergency, searches and demand for items to keep safe in emergencies went up by staggering totals.

According to KuantoKusta, the blackout “provoked an immediate reaction from consumers, who are buying solutions en masse to guarantee autonomy in emergencies.”

Among the figures comparing those days to ‘normal’ were increases of 4,594% for battery-powered radios, 1,728% for portable power banks and 348% for camping stoves
