On a recent walk following London’s Regents Canal from Kings Cross to Limehouse, I noticed quite a few birds—I always seem to have an eye out for them—but this time there were quite a few families.

I’m not much of a bird-identifier (and that’s putting it mildly), but Google tells me that this is a Eurasian coot, also known as the common coot. And it kindly pointed out that its feet are the best clues that I wasn’t looking at ducks.

Next came the geese—the much-maligned Canada geese as a matter of fact. No matter what you might think of them and their droppings, their kids are cute. And when they itch, they put on quite a show for the camera.

Last up, a family of swans, moving in and out of the reeds. Alas, they were too far away for a video.
