A mid-morning stroll along Fort Kochi’s promenade provided some nice subjects for a few photos. In the shot above a group of fishermen are mending their very colourful nets; below a craftsman demonstrates his skills at turning animal horns into a variety of decorative and utilitarian objects.

The ‘Chinese fishing nets’ in the next photo owe their name to the Chinese settlers/travellers who are believed to have introduced the concept. [More information about these nets can be found here: https://www.travelgumbo.com/july-31-2017-fishing-nets-at-fort-kochi/]

A few metres along fishermen have laid out the day’s catch, both from the stationary nets and their boats.

The promenade is also a good vantage point from which to watch the steady stream of ferries and excursion boats ploughing their way towards the landing piers, which are just a short distance away.

Locals seemed to outnumber tourists on this part of the waterfront and some of them are seen here enjoying a glass of tea and a snack.

As to the final photo, I am unable to offer any guesses about what might have motivated this piece of street art, although I doubt whether there is any link to the poster advertising ‘The King of Biriyanis’.
