Belgian artists are donating artworks for an auction aimed at saving the building where the artist collective Ercola has had studio and work spaces for over 50 years.
The building complex in Antwerp, owned by the city, is being auctioned Thursday, with an asking price of at least €1.6 million.
With nearly €1 million on hand in donations and loans from the public, the artists hope to close the gap with tomorrow’s auction and keep the space from commercial redevelopment. Many of Belgium’s best-known current artists have contributed works for the sale.
