Among the things that always catch my eye while traveling are nicely-made signs and lettering. Here’s another round, collected in Belgium, England, Germany and France.
Old England isn’t in England at all; it’s the name of a former department store in Brussels whose Art Nouveau building now houses a music museum. Below, another bit of Brussels Art Nouveau.
From about the same period but in London…
Pre-dating Kensington Court, but an example of older styles. Interestingly, while the letters are carved into the surface, because of their wide strokes, some have mistakenly identified them as painted!
Crossing back to the Continent, we have Heidelberg’s oldest private residence (although it’s been a hotel for over 300 years now). The lower letters aren’t bad, but the elegant black-letter and the surrounding sculpture is a treat.
