Noah’s Ark won’t be sailing off to Turkey, South Korea, the U.S. or Israel—it’s found a new home in Amsterdam.
The 135-metre long ship—no animals included—was put on sale by its owner, Dutch businessman Johan Huibers who says he’s lost a fortune on the project, and was told the ship would have to leave its recent port in Dordrecht to make room for a housing project. Construction cost about €4 million.
Huibers will still be involved with the ship at its new location, along with Beelen, a development company, who haven’t offered precise plans for its use, but say that “The Ark, with its exhibition space, cinema, and accommodations, offers many possibilities for our plans.” The ship has seven decks, several cinemas, a restaurant and even four apartments.
The ship will be moved via the North Sea, as it’s too large for canals. On arrival in Amsterdam, the ship will be renovated. “The wood is not in the best state in some areas,” said the spokesperson. “After the renovation, we will finally be able to shape the new plans.”
