Usually rankings of airports are based on criteria such as percentages of delay and cancelation, comfort of lounges, ease or difficulty of getting to gates and even what kinds of food and retail are available—but now there’s a survey that ranks airports by what it costs for parking, a hotel and a pint of beer.
The study, by Casino.ca, checked out the 50 busiest airports in North America—Canada, U.S. and Mexico—and came up with some surprising and not-so-surprising results.
All of the ten most-expensive airports are in the U.S. and Canada, while five of the least-expensive are in Mexico—but two of the three most expensive beers were at Mexican airports, while all three of the cheapest were in the U.S. For parking. The range for beer, by the way, ran from $4.41 in Portland to $12.41 at LaGuardia.
The ten most expensive airports:
- LaGuardia Airport in New York, New York: $381.41
- Denver International Airport in Denver, Colorado: $351.41
- Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts: $335.91
- Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in Dallas, Texas: $325.05
- John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, New York: $309.55
- San Francisco International Airport in San Francisco, California: $301.58
- San Diego International Airport in San Diego, California: $282.13
- Miami International Airport in Miami, Florida: $272.90
- Calgary International Airport in Calgary, Canada: $259.07
- Midway International Airport in Chicago, Illinois: $258.10
