Bangkok is a bustling city with over ten million residents and often hazy air; at times, it can seem overwhelming, even to a New Yorker.

But there are quiet places among all that, and the former home, now a museum, of Jim Thompson is one of them.

Thompson, an American who helped revive and promote the Thai silk industry in the 1950s and 1960s, created a home that is not only set off from the city, except by sight, but which is intertwined with its own greenery, visible from many points within the house.

Even the views of the growing city are moderated by the ‘green screen.’

Even with many others visiting at the same time, it seemed a place that expected, and offered, a quiet moment.
