Senior Sailor Says:
The ‘sail away’ is a common occurrence on cruise ships as the ship leaves its home port. Almost everyone has a drink in hand and is celebrating the days and weeks ahead as they sail to exotic, fun ports.
To add to this experience, Holland America Line recently began offering a ‘Farewell Dinner’ on the last evening to celebrate the fun passengers had during their time aboard the ship.
I recently sailed with Holland Line to Alaska, and I had a fantastic time combining onboard activities, fun at every port, and delicious meals.

Inspired by the experiences that make each voyage memorable, the ‘Farewell Dinner’ is a celebration of connection: new friends and the excellence of the crew.
“It’s more than just a meal: the Dining Room comes alive throughout the evening with the energy and camaraderie that define the last night, putting a spotlight on heartfelt moments shared between guests and crew,” according to the cruise line.
“As a brand built on more than 150 years of history and hospitality, we know some of the most meaningful moments of a cruise happen around the dinner table,” said Michael Stendebach, senior vice president of food, beverage and rooms division for Holland America Line. “The ‘Farewell Dinner’ is designed to celebrate the journey guests have shared together while creating a memorable farewell before they return home. Featuring dishes that have long been connected to cruising and to Holland America makes the last night with us even more special.”
