A Last Night in Tbilisi

On the eve of my departure from Tbilisi, I took a long, winding stroll across the city bathed in splendid twilight, starting out just before sundown and returning late at night, and there were enough people bustling around and enough activity unfolding, for me to feel any lack of safety.

I watched the sky changing color from a shy pink to a deep red, tapped my feet to the lively rhythms of an indie band playing folk songs in the public park, savoured the last nibbles of local cuisine, and finally finished off with an ice-cream on the way back.

In between, I tried out the decadent sulfur baths in the heart of the old town—harking back to ancient times when caravans used to stop here for the night, and then the Soviet era when the privileged indulged in the same with their family and friends.

A car getting stuck against the road divider only to be pulled out by sheer human force was the highlight of my evening, though!
