Anyone traveling on the I-90 freeway across South Dakota will have seen signs for Wall Drug. Lots of them.
I remember making this journey for the first time as a teenager, and being impressed by the volume of signs letting you know that Wall Drug was somewhere out there. I thought it must be an important destination — like Disneyland or Universal Studios. I was definitely wrong about that. It was many years before I finally stopped at Wall Drug and looked around the place. What was once a simple drug store years ago has turned into a sizeable shopping complex and tourist stop and, in its own way, is a tourist attraction. That’s a story for another day.
With my wife behind the wheel, I tried to take a sampling of some of the Wall Drug signage we passed along the road. We were driving at about 80 mph so lots of the photos didn’t turn out well, but a few of them did:
After all those signs, you have to stop!!
