Wanderlust Magazine—a wonderful resource

I read a lot of travel magazines. Well, read might not be the best word. I skim through a lot of travel magazines. Most of them tend to focus on high end markets, You know what I mean, hotels that charge $400, $500 or more per night. Cruises that start at eight thousand dollars. And their articles tend to be light in detail, covering a week-long trip in just a couple of pages or even paragraphs.

There is one magazine that has grabbed my interest. In fact I have become an obsessive fan of Wanderlust Magazine, published in the UK. This is a wonderful resource and a beautiful read. First it is larger than its American cousins. It is 1 inch longer, that doesn’t sound like a lot, but visually it makes the magazine’s graphics jump out. And its photographs really pop off of the pages. Second, the main articles really dig into their destinations. For example, the Dec 2024/Jan 2025 issue’s feature is on Brazil and it runs a full 15 pages! This allows the writers to offer more options of things to see beyond just Rio and São Paulo. Best of all the recommendations of hotels and restaurants cover a wide range of price points, starting as low as £100 for rooms (this is a British magazine).

At its heart, Wanderlust works to represent its ethos of “ethical travel.” It highlights local and indigenous travel guides and businesses. Every article provides carbon offset information. It takes the tag-line “Taking the Road Less Traveled since 1993” very seriously.

Wanderlust also produces a podcast, where the writers of some of its main articles are interviewed, giving an even more in depth look at their destination.

U.S. and UK subscriptions are £35, Eurozone £45 and other international £55

I fully agree with your assessment. I also like leafing through Wanderlust – although my own price point is generally below the £100 you mention. 🙂
