CPR Locomotive #3651, Lethbridge, Alberta

This steam locomotive was built for Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) by the Montreal Locomotive Works in the early 20th century (originally built in 1910 and upgraded in 1927).  Engines of this type were designed to be powerful and able to carry large payloads.

The order for such engines was placed around 1912 when CPR wanted the bigger locomotives for their mainline as their current smaller engines were wearing out and needed replacing.

The locomotive is on display at the old Canadian Pacific Depot in the small city of Lethbridge, Alberta.  It’s a relic of a bygone era, as much as a biplane is of the airline industry.
