Prague in Winter

If you want to avoid the crowds, winter – but not Christmas – is a good time to visit Prague. December and early January see huge crowds visiting the Christmas markets, but from mid-January onwards things quieten down considerably.

There are fewer tourists, easier entry to attractions and restaurants and cheaper hotel rates. At this time of year it is insanely cold in the Czech capital, often with snow, but that makes it just right for tucking into hearty Czech food.

The public transport system in Prague is considered one of the best in Europe. It operates efficiently during winter with trams, buses and the metro to choose from. One or two ferries still run but most stop during winter.

Nice shots, which brought back memories of a trip there in January – many years ago.

Beautiful images! All my visits have been in warmer weather, so it’s a new view for me.
