I love surprises, and when I was touring Minnesota with my cousin Anne (pictured here), I took advantage of her lifelong experience at Explore Minnesota Tourism.
We had just left Grand Rapids, home of Judy Garland, before Hollywood when Anne said we must stop in Eveleth.
This community is home to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum and also features the world’s largest hockey stick.
The giant hockey monument is 110 feet long and weighs 10,000 pounds. It is complete with a 700-pound built-to-scale puck measuring 5 feet by 20 inches; it is the World’s Largest Free-Standing Hockey Stick.
It was designed and built by Sentinel Structures of Peshtigo, Wisconsin, one of the nation’s leading firms in developing structural glued laminated timber.
We took photos of the hockey stick and puck, a hockey player statue, and a mural across the street.
We set out again heading for the Twin Cities. Eveleth is about three hours north of Minneapolis and St. Paul. It was a fun stop that I would have never known about had it not been for Anne.
