Karen Kyllesø, a 21-year-old Norwegian woman has reached the South Pole on skis, the youngest person ever to reach that goal on skis, solo and without assistance.
It might not be a big surprise to those who knew that when she was 14, she became the youngest to trek across Greenland.
She completed her trek last week, finishing 114 years after Roald Amundsen became the first person to reach the South Pole. Kyllesø’s trek took just under 54 days.
The previous Guinness record for youngest to reach the Pole solo was held by Pierre Hedan of France, who was 26 when he set the record a year ago.
Kyllesø, who is just 1.52 metres (nearly five foot) tall and weighs 48 kiloes (106 pounds), pulled a sled weighing 100 kilos, or twice her weight, in her bid to reach the pole.
