I drove at least an hour to get to this lake on what I thought would be a very calm night. My goal was to get pictures of the night sky reflecting in the lake. But . . . Mother Nature had other plans. Even though there seemed to be no wind, the water was moving. Trying to make the best of a bad shoot (really just a different shoot than I had hoped for), I pointed the lens South to capture the Milky Way. And there were clouds! So I just started shooting and painting the foreground with light, and this is what I came up with. It turned out pretty good, and I was glad to have made the trek. I hope you enjoy it too!

Beautiful photograph!
Thank you Marilyn! Glad that I didn’t stay up past 1am for nothing. 🙂
Great photo, Troy! I’m curious – did you use your flash to light the foreground, or some different light source like your headlights?
On this one I used a headlamp to briefly paint the scene. If the exposure is for 12 seconds, I probably only painted for 3 or 4 seconds. I have been wanting to play around doing some glow sticks in the water, or some other small light source that can be thrown out and brought back in.
