Last year while my husband Gene and I spent 48 Hours in Philadelphia we were able to see the Battleship named the USS New Jersey. The New Jersey served in World War II as the flagship for Adm. William “Bull” Halsey in the Pacific.
During the battleship’s career, New Jersey earned 19 battle stars, making it the most decorated battleship in U.S. Navy history. The ship was decommissioned for the fourth and final time in February 1991.
After a brief retention in the mothball fleet, she was donated to the Home Port Alliance in Camden, New Jersey, and has served as a museum ship there since October of 2001. In the spring of 2024 the New Jersey underwent dry-docking at Drydock no. 3 at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. It was still there when we visited in May and we were able to get a few pictures from behind the fence at the shipyard.
My daddy was on this ship a log time ago he was in the navy and this was his ship
That is awesome Susanne. Thank you for the msg. Have you ever been on it?
