Brussels ramps up transit for ‘Car-Free Sunday’

Yesterday was Car-Free Sunday again in Brussels, an annual event that turns the city into Europe’s largest car-free zone once each year, with cars off the capital’s streets  from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm as the grand finale of Mobility Week.

To keep people’s lives moving in the city, especially for those not yet ready to cycle, rollerblade or scoot across town, Brussels’ transit operator beefed up the public transit operation, putting subways, buses and trams on Saturday schedules instead of Sunday schedules, and even added some extra service on top of that.

And, to make it all the sweeter, transit was free for the day.
