“Flights to Nowhere” taking off

Two more airlines have recently expanded their route maps with a series of flights to… well… to where they started from. Singapore Airlines and Qantas are the latest to try to capitalize on how much some of us miss the thrill of flying.

Other airlines that have done various trips to nowhere include Taiwan’s Eva Air and StarLux Airlines and  Japan’s ANA. One Taiwanese airline even offered the full check-in experience and had passengers board a plane that never left the ground.

Most of the flights have been sightseeing flights, and Qantas new flights will cover domestic scenery; with a partner it has also operated a 13-hour loop that takes in scenery in Antarctica. Singapore is reported to be planning even more ‘realistic’ flight packages that include not only a sightseeing flight but also a complete staycation with hotel and shopping vouchers.
