Seward Harbor, Alaska

Seward is a fairly small town of around 2,000 people, a little over a two hour drive from Anchorage.  Seward has a large and impressive harbor on Resurrection Bay that’s worth seeing — probably the prettiest in Alaska.  This harbor is home to private boats, tourism related vessels (Kenai Fjords National Park tours and charter fishing boats for example), and a commercial fishing fleet.  It also hosts Coast Guard vessels and in summer months you’ll often see a massive cruise ship docked there during the day.  Apparently US Navy ships sometimes stop by, but we didn’t see that.

Early in the morning and later in the afternoon, the harbor is especially busy, with boats moving about, lots of people, and bald eagles flying over head.  If you’re lucky, you might spot sea otters or sea lions swimming around the docks.  Everything is framed by the beautiful mountains of the Kenai Peninsula.  There are a number of harborside gift shops and restaurants, worth your time to explore.
