With more and more attention being focused on the problem of plastic waste, especially in the ocean where it can trap and kill birds, a group of British surfers have taken on a plan to pick it up.
Surfers Against Sewage, which started as a local effort in 1990, campaigning against untreated sewage in the ocean, is organizing a week-long nationwide cleanup of plastic waste on the beaches.
Over the years, it’s become a major environmental campaigner, and counts a network of 180 regional groups around the country. In last year’s cleanup, 1,200 volunteers collected over 100 tons of plastic.,
