What I appreciate about taking a Viking River Cruise is the opportunity to explore lots of different villages and cities. On my recent “Waterways of the Tsars” cruise between Moscow and St. Petersburg, I was able to experience many not-talked-about communities along the way.
Kuzina is home to the grand and massive Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery with its medieval religious artifacts dating to the late fourteenth century.
When the soviets came into power, the monastery was closed. Fortunately it wasn’t torn down or converted to secular uses. Instead it was designated as the Kirillov-Belozersky Museum of History, Art, and Architecture in 1929.
Although monks were readmitted to a portion of the complex in 1998, the main campus remains a museum.
