Airlie Gardens in Wilmington, NC, is a 67-acre expanse of pathways, flowers and Spanish moss-draped trees. The gardens were created in 1901 by Sarah Jones and German landscape architect Rudolf Topel. It is said the phrase Keeping up with the Joneses was coined here because of Mrs. Jones’ lavish parties.
