Nov. 17, 2017: Wreck of a trawler, Nova Scotia Beach

Local residents recall that in 1969, at the height of the Cold War, the skipper of a Polish registered fishing trawler deliberately ran the vessel onto the rocks off Nova Scotia beach and claimed asylum for himself and the crew. The boat reportedly carried an abnormal number of aerials and that the entire crew were soon bundled into a car and driven away by staff from the Russian embassy. It has been assumed that the boat was engaged in spying activities. A few scattered, rusting elements of the hull of the trawler are closely associated with a small clear patch amongst the boulders, which is evidently where the boat rested for some time.
