FlyDelta, the airline’s smartphone app, will now automatically check passengers in 24 hours before flights, and can also give you live wayfinding around the airport.
The check-in process requires responding to a message acknowledging the safety rules and restricted items; pressing the button then adds the boarding pass to the app, and can be displayed even without WiFi access. There’s also an opportunity to change seats, add luggage, etc. before the process is complete.
That’s a big up for Delta, but not the only tech wonders recently added. The app also includes integrated maps for almost two dozen airports, showing the way to gates, baggage carousels and to in-airport food and stores. Delta’s luggage tags now include RFID tagging that allows the airline to show customers just where their bags are, through the app.
UPDATE: Delta’s not the only airline adding functions to its app. United has just announced that passengers making connections between United flights and 19 of its partners will be able to get the partner airline boarding pass on their United app, along with the United pass.
