A court in the northern German city of Münster has handed a software company a tax break, and struck a blow for a better breakfast.
The North Rhine-Westphalia tax office charged that the company was giving its employees taxable free meals, and should pay out about €1.50 per employee in taxes. It also wanted retroactive payments going back to 2008.
But the court took a look at the rolls, delicious as they are, and the coffee and, in essence, asked “Where’s the beef?” declaring that if it doesn’t include cold cuts, cheese or spreads, it just doesn’t cut the mustard as a meal.
