The twin light beams that have split the night sky for Parisians since the start of the millenium have gone dark for a month for renovations and an upgrade.
The beams, which were turned on at midnight on Dec. 31, 1999, can be seen for 80 km from the tower.
The four beam projectors that create the two beams require “renovation on its rotation and controls,” according to tower officials. The lights will go on again Oct. 10.
