Paris Air Show: New technology and single-aisle planes

This year’s Paris air show highlights two current trends in the industry: A slowdown in orders for large twin-aisle planes, and an emphasis on new technologies. Most of the new orders announced at  the show have been for single-aisle jets such as the 737 and A320 familes.

And, of course, the continuing sales rivalry between Boeing and Airbus. Each company is announcing new orders daily, vying for top publicity. So far, Boeing has announced 45 sales and 83 tentative sales, worth about $15 billion at list prices, while Airbus claims 95 orders or tentatives worth about $10 billion. Boeing says it has 240 orders for its new 737 MAX 10 model, just announced; some of those will certainly be included in the total.

The other trend is in technology, with Airbus introducing a new digital platform, and Boeing forecasting growth in demand both for technology and data services to guide industry decision.
