World’s largest roadside attractions: Seen ’em all?

There are a lot of ‘best’ and ‘oldest’ and other superlatives out there, but it’s not often you get a list of things that have been, well, blown out of proportion. But here’s one from The Telegraph (UK): 17 of the largest (and, the Telegraph says, weirdest) roadside attractions.

The list, which can be seen HERE, with pictures, includes the immense ketchup bottle above, in Collinsville, Illinois. It’s actually a water tower, and is 170 feet tall. Built in 1949, and sadly for an ‘off-brand’ ketchup. But it is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. (Trivia: Heinz sells 80% of the world’s ketchup and 60% of North American ketchup.)

Other items on the list include a huge typewriter eraser (actually an artwork by Claes Oldenburg), a 4.5 ton disco ball, immense lobsters and pennies, and a building-sized chest of drawers. Long on pictures, short on reasons! Have fun!
