Texas theme park opens a wheelchair splash park

Morgan’s Wonderland, a San Antonio-area theme park that’s completely accessible for special needs visitors, is adding a wheelchair-accessible splash park in time for summer.

Morgan’s Inspiration Island features different-themed water play areas, including water coasters and a dinosaur gallery. Wheelchair guests will swap their own for the park’s waterproof chairs.

The park is the creation of developer Gordon Hartman, who sold his successful home-building business to create the park, named for his daughter, who deals with cognitive and physical challenges. He wanted to create an opportunity for her and others. Although the entire park, with all its rides and attractions is designed to be fully-accessible, it’s open to everyone.

Admission to the non-profit park is free for those with special needs; family, friends, caregivers and the general public pay a nominal fee. More information at the park’s website.
