May 26, 2017: Boy on a Dolphin

Sophia Loren always spoke highy of Hydra Island and the time she spent there while filming the 1956 movie Boy On The Dolphin. In turn, the islands residents also seem to remember her – and the movie – very fondly, and have even placed a statue near the port to commemorate the film.

The bronze statue mimics the statue that Loren’s character finds on the bottom of the sea. The statue pretty easy to find, just a few minutes past the cannons on the west side of the port near Phaedra’s windmill .  The boy points towards the sea, surrounded by yellow flowers. It was a very pleasant place to sit and enjoy the view for a short while. One of the endless lovely spot to discover on Hydra Island.
