The river cruise industry seems more determined than ever to break out of its image as a sedate pastime for the over 60s. One major line is now re-doing two of its ships to create a brand for the 18-40 crowd.
U by Uniworld will start offering cruises in 2018, with sales starting soon, on two ships being updated for a younger look. They’ll also feature communal dining tables, cocktail mixologists and international DJs, and new food programs.
Uniworld’s marketing for U will also reflect its planned audience: much of the initial campaign will be through Twitter, Facebook and Instragram.
Over the past two years, much of the river cruise news has featured the growth of family cruising, with Disney partnering with AmaWaterways, and other lines adding ships with family-sized cabins and activities aimed at families with children.
