Swiss rescue dogs to get help from drones

Two Swiss organizations have teamed up to make searching for missing people faster and more effective by using drones to assist the work of rescue dogs and their handlers.

The Swiss Society for Rescue Dogs, known as Redog, is often called out to search large and sometimes dangerous areas for people who have gone missing—Switzerland has about 3000 missing people a year, although most are found in cities. The causes include health issues, confusion or dementia.

When searches extend into wider areas, the drones, provided by the Swiss Federation of Civil Drones, will take to the air with thermal imaging and night vision cameras to provide images of the search area and to narrow down the likely places to search.
