Mark 2017 calendar: 1st October Saturday events

It’s too late for this year, but Gumbo suggests you mark next year’s calendar and make plans for the first Saturday in October when two artful events come around again: Paris’s Nuit Blanche, and Austria’s Long Night of Museums. Both are being held today and tonight.

Austria’s event keeps museums open from 6 pm to 1 am, and allows holders of the event’s special ticket to roam from museum to museum until it’s over. There’s a ticket for each of Austria’s states and big cities. It’s a good opportunity not only to see special exhibits at the ‘big’ museums, but also to visit some that get less business. Every city has some of those; Vienna has, among others, a funeral museum, located at the Central Cemetery.

Paris’s better-known Nuit Blanche starts at 7 pm and runs into the early hours. There’s no charge for the outdoor events, which include a walking map focused on the Seine, and listing outdoor exhibits by many contemporary artists. It’s in its 15th year, and includes performances as well.

There are also free shuttles along the river, animations in the windows of the Hotel de Ville, and more. Details? Click HERE
