Ryanair may hook up with BA, Virgin, TAP for long-haul

On the ground at London Stansted, where Ryanair might feed overseas passengers to BA

Ryanair, the biggest short-haul and budget carrier in Europe has often hinted at starting a trans-Atlantic service, but never taken the step. Now it may be going about it a new way, making deals to feed passengers to long-haul carriers such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic or Portugal’s TAP.

Bloomberg News reports that Ryanair is already in talks with the three companies on possible cooperation, and with Norwegian Air Shuttle as well. Some speculation focuses on London Stansted, Ryanair’s biggest base; BA has been said to be considering long-haul flights from there. Other possible links could be South American flights by TAP from Lisbon, or flights to North America on Aer Lingus from Dublin. Aer Lingus is being acquired by British Air’s parent company.

Ryanair’s statement to Bloomberg indicated that the long-haul partners would handle baggage transfer and connections at the transfer airports. Ryanair also indicated that some connections could begin as early as this winter’s schedule. More details from Bloomberg News HERE                P
