Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, May 7th, 2015:The Crooked House

The Crooked House was built in 1765 and was originally a farmhouse. During the 1800s, mining in the area caused one side of the building to gradually subside.

It later became a public house called the Siden House, siden meaning “crooked”It was due for demolition in 1940.

A local brewery rescued it years later and stabilised it with concrete and steel.
The Crooked House is located near Dudley, England.

Possibly the only building in England to be saved by WWII !

Yes, everything looks better after a couple of pints…but a couple more after that and you may have the answer to whether “more vertical” is “better!”

Couple more pints and you might be lying horizontally outside the place.  From that perspective, if you tilt your head slightly, everything looks vertical!

Was that vertical you meant, or vertigo?
