Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, January 15th, 2015: Winter Flowers ?

Todays Picture of the Day comes with a question.
Thanks to “Climate Change” this Rose is happy to flower in January.
That’s today – 15 January 2015. It’s in Liverpool, England where I live.
2 years ago you’d be digging out snow. It’s been almost frost free ever since.

Is “Climate Change” a bad thing?

Old people dying from Hypothermia in the UK has dropped from 25.000 per annum to 19,000.
The rains have returned to Ethiopia and once again a starving nation can now feed itself and export food to the rest of Africa.
The Ice at the South Pole has never been as deep.
And we’re using less fuel to keep us warm in the winter.

How has “Climate Change” affected  life in your corner of the world ?
Has a warmer Winter opened up new travel destinations to you ?

It’s a beautiful flower, Garry, and wish that they were blooming out there now.  I’m looking at a foot of snow on the ground as I write this.

Last year in Calgary was one of the longest and coldest winters on record.  This winter is somewhat milder, but still with enough cold days.  What does this mean when added to what you describe?  I have no idea.

My own view is that we’ve only been studying the planet’s weather for about a century with some detail now.  That, in the scope of the history of the globe, is but a second in time.  I don’t know what meaningful conclusions can be drawn by looking at data from such a limited period of time.

But I do like that flower!  Thanks for sharing it with us.

Westward Reflections

Sometimes the fishing ain’t that great, but you still get quite a reward. On a calm evening, with only a few bites, I watched as the sunset turned incredible before my eyes. The smooth lake created a perfect reflection of the sky above.
