Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, January 2, 2015: Postcards from Morocco – the Berber nomad

Happy New Year 2015 to all Gumbo-ists!! I wish you all health, happiness and prosperity in the coming year.

Today I am delighted to share my meeting with this gentle and friendly Berber nomad from his encampment above the Todra Gorge in the High Atlas mountains in southern Morocco. Despite his 80+ years he still demonstrates his agility by springing across the rock-strewn slopes in his daily climbs up and down from his camp to the village below.

Sometimes the fishing ain’t that great, but you still get quite a reward. On a calm evening, with only a few bites, I watched as the sunset turned incredible before my eyes. The smooth lake created a perfect reflection of the sky above.

January 15, 2016: Stonehenge Summer Solstice

The sign of times soon to come! This was my first summer solstice sunrise at Stonehenge in England and I love the picture because it heralds the warm sunny days that are yet to come (please!) after the dark days of winter. The solstice sun-rises are the only occasions these days when the public are allowed to be within touching distance of the old stones that comprise ‘the Henge’.
