Crossing the border from Basel’s suburbs into Germany might be like crossing into the Twilight Zone, to judge from these signs near the border. Five of the six cities listed are no longer in Germany. Three are in Poland (Danzig is Gdansk, Breslau is Wroclaw and Stettin is Szczecin), one is in Russia (Konigsberg became Kaliningrad) and Karlsbad is Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. To cap it off, Baden is no longer a Grand Duchy, but part of the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg.
