We went to Hawaii expecting surf, mountains, palms, pineapples and all the rest…but no one told us about the chickens! Here and there around the islands we found them…on the beach, on mountain trails, in parking lots. Sometimes one or two, sometimes a small flock, but always in beautiful colors like these.
I can’t imagine why this isn’t the state bird: Much more elegant and somehow Hawaiian than the nene, or Hawaiian goose!
Did you get to see the colour of their eggs ?
Paul, you’re beginning to sound like Ben Franklin who wanted the turkey to be the USA’s national bird, not the bald eagle. If he’d seen these photos, I’m sure old Ben would have been advocating for the chickens.
And if Ben Franklin had told anyone he’d seen these photos, he’d have been locked up and we’d have never heard of him. It was probably a close call for him as it was.
