United Airlines, which is retiring the 747s that were its long-time long-distance flagships, is sending them off in style with gala 'last flights.'
Originally, the airline had intended its Oct. 29 flight from Seoul to San Francisco to be the last, but apparently the ongoing love by passengers for the 'Queen of the Skies' led United to add a November 7th flight to Hawaii. Within two hours of announcement, all seats were sold.
The Hawaii flight will be special in its own way. Crew will wear retro uniforms, meals will have a 70s theme, as will the entertainment. And, the upper-deck seats are not being sold so that all passengers can spend a bit of time up there. However, a few of the upper deck seats will be assigned by lottery to those paying for first-class or business.
And who knows: United might add a few more flights if the demand is there. In fact, they could even keep one 747 flying as long as the nostalgia keeps up!
