Self-driving bus hits public roads in the Netherlands

The "Wepod"  is the first  self- driving  shuttle bus used on public roads with traffic. The plan for the electric driverless shuttle bus is to take six passengers between the two towns of Wageningen and Ede in the Netherlands. Passengers can  book through an app and specify their starting and finishing points. During it's initial test phase, it will not travel in in rush hour traffic, at night or in bad weather and will be monitored by a control room. 

 French vehicle manufacturer and robotic specialists EasyMile. developed the buses for the EU  funded Citymobil2. Citymobil2 looks to develop automated road transport systems across urban Europe .Their electric driverless shuttles have already transported 19,000 passengers in Vantaa, Finland and also have transported  passengers on the EPFL university campus, in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Wepod  plans to expand to routes to other regions in the Netherlands  after May.
