It seems more airlines are offering ultra-long flights. That's partially because of reduced fuel costs, but mostly because new aircraft (Boeing's 787 and Airbus' upcoming A350) allow for this flexibility which is very popular with consumers.
United Airlines will soon be the only carrier to offer nonstop service from the continental United States and Singapore, with daily flights from San Francisco to begin in June. Singapore Airlines discontinued its nonstop flights to Los Angeles and New York in 2013.
United will be flying Boeing 787-9 aircraft and the flight will take just under 16 1/2 hours. That's four hours faster than United's current route to Singapore through Narita airport in Japan. The 252-seat aircraft includes 48 “BusinessFirst” and 88 economy plus seats.
Within a few years, Singapore Airlines will also begin offering nonstop service to the USA as well, planning on flying the Airbus A350 to New York.
