Good news overhead with bigger bins

Relief is on the way for at least some passengers worried if there'll be space on board for their carry-on luggage. Both Boeing and Airbus have addressed the overhead space wars that have become more and more of an issue as more travelers opt for carry-on to avoid luggage fees.

Airbus has introduced the Airspace XL bins (above) on a larger planes last year, and is now installing them on new A320s and A321s. They hold eight bags in 'bookcase' format where the older bins held five. And Boeing has updated its Sky cabin scheme with Space Bins (below) that can hold six rather than four.

American Airlines, the largest operator of A321s, has announced it will retrofit over 200 of its A321s with the Airspace XL bins, starting later this year, when the bins become available from the Austrian manufacturer.
