France: Good year ahead for long weekends

If you're planning a trip to France, you can either plan for or plan to avoid more long weekends in 2017 than this year.

The upcoming year has 6 public holidays falling on either Friday or Monday and New Years Day falls on Sunday, giving Monday off. Assumption Day on a Tuesday and Ascension Day on Thursday will lead many to take an extra day off to make a four-day weekend. Last year, only 3 public holidays fell at the weekend.

Here's the list:

  • New Year's Day: Sunday, January 1st
  • Easter Monday: Monday, April 17th
  • Labor Day: Monday, May 1st
  • Victory in Europe Day (end of WWII): Monday, May 8th
  • Ascension Day: Thursday, May 25th
  • Pentecost: Monday, June 5th
  • Bastille Day: Friday, July 14th
  • Assumption Day: Tuesday, August 15th
  • All Saints' Day: Wednesday, November 1st
  • Remembrance Day: Saturday, November 11th
  • Christmas: Monday, December 25th

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
