Embraer rolls out its newest jet

Brazilian small jet manufacturer, Embraer, introduced it's newest aircraft this past week, rolling out the E190-E2 narrowbody to a large crowd of employees and guests at its assembly plant in São José dos Campos, Brazil.  Scheduled for first flight in the second half of 2016, the jet will be powered by fuel saving Pratt & Whitney PW1900G engines.  The E190-E2 retains the E190’s current seating capacity, but has increased range to 2,800 nautical miles, 400 more than E190, as a result of increased fuel efficiency.

The E190-E2 has already undergone 14,000 hours of flight tests and the company believes if will be able to fly the first three airplanes in 2016 and the fourth–equipped with a full interior–early next year.  Embraer plans to commercially deliver the first E190-E2 in the first half of 2018.  It has scheduled the larger E195-E2 entry into service a year later and the smaller E175-E2 in 2020.

Embraer currently builds about 2 planes a week.  With the E2 family, Embraer plans to serve the 70- to 130-passenger market with which it directly competes with Canadian manufacturer, Bombardier.  The E195-E2 will carry three more rows of four passenger seats than the current E195 holds, giving it a maximum capacity of 144 passengers once it enters service in 2019.  Just ahead of the rollout, Embraer announced a 1.4 meter (4.6 foot) wingspan increase for the E195-E2, designed to increase range and improve performance especially in hot and high situations.

The E2 family has firm orders for 267 planes, as well as options on another 373.  More on this story from ainonline.com at this link.
