Denmark embracing 'sharing economy'—and taxing it

 

As in many countries, the so-called 'sharing economy' exemplified by Airbnb has been growing in Denmark, with estimates from the Nordea banking group that about 25% of Danes taking part in some way in 2015.

And with increasing amounts of money going to Airbnb hosts, Uber drivers, and other 'sharers,' Denmark is now thinking of ways to get the government's share of the sharing. Parliament is about to consider laws, believed likely to pass, that will require Danes to register participation in sharing schemes, and to be taxed automatically on that income.
