Apr. 30, 2016: Memories of Monet's Garden

One of my favorite places in France, and one we keep returning to, is Monet's garden, at his home in Giverny, where each visit and each season has given us both a familiar sense and differing views.

If some of the many photographs we visitors take bear a resemblance to some of Monet's paintings, it is, of course, no accident: He created the fields, the streams and the bridges and arbors just as he wished to paint them.174

Definitely worth a visit! It's an easy train ride from the Gare Saint-Lazare (another Monet subject!) to Vernon, in eastern Normandy. From there, it's a pleasant 5km walk; there's also a bus that meets each train and heads straight for the Monet Foundation at Giverny.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
